A modern timepiece with a bit of old soul: The Ikonik Watches Oceandiver Vintage Review

Updated: Mar 28

Vintage timepieces are absolutely stunning pieces of art that are, in a way, a time capsule of past lives lived by its past owners and each tells its own unique story. Today's timepiece is an example of a modern watch that has a unique vintage look and feel and brings a dose of nostalgia to the owner or a person seeing it in passing. This watch is built with such high quality materials and exceptional precision that allows for a truly stunning example of modern craftsmanship with a touch of old soul. Today we look at the Ikonik Watches Oceandiver Vintage.

Movement:

Inside the Oceandiver Vintage is the extremely reliable Seiko (SII) Caliber NH35A movement. This is a 24 jewel automatic movement with a power reserve of 41 hours, hacks, self winds and the NH35A is the most popular choice in automatic movement to be used in watches by various microbrands. (The NH35A is also referenced as the Seiko 4R35A. The difference being that the NH35A is the unbranded version of the 4R35A.)

Review:

Pros:

The Ikonik Oceandiver Vintage is possibly the best example of a timepiece that feels of much higher quality than its price tag dictates. The Oceandiver Vintage fits like an absolute dream with its 40mm case diameter and the taper on the bracelet (from 20mm at the lugs - 18mm at the clasp) adds additional comfort and wearability that makes the watch feel like its an extension of you and not just an accessory sitting a top your wrist.

The watch is being powered by the Seiko NH35A which has its fantastic 41 hour power reserve feature that ensures the watch will be functioning for 2 days before it will need winding and the NH35A being a very reliable movement keeps fantastic and accurate time.

The satin black dial is extremely readable with its vintage coloured indices (Vintage tint Superluminova) along with a very legible date window thanks to its 3x magnification cyclops in the 3:00 position. Thanks to the vintage tint Superluminova, the dial has a very 1960's Submariner vibe that is extremely attractive and gives that vintage appeal that is absolutely stunning to look at.

The 120 click unidirectional bezel has a satisfying click when rotating as well as absolutely no back play. With its black ceramic bezel insert, the watch has an even greater feel of luxury along with its numerals engraved in the bezel insert and filled white instead of being printed on.

Cons:

This list is extremely short with only one issue that is not by any means a major issue, but it is the lume. The vintage tint Superluminova on the indices glows a nice bright green when fully charged and shows up fantastic in a dark room or environment, but it is lacking a coat of Superluminova on the lume pip on the bezel at the 12:00 position. As stated, this is not a major issue and would not affect all timepieces in the Ikonik catalogue thus does not change my opinion that this is a fantastic watch.

Conclusion:

This watch is equipped with absolutely impressive aesthetics, absolute quality material selection and luxurious heft that gives the watch a vibe of high end Swiss watch making and craftsmanship when in fact it is a very affordable timepiece that fits in any collectors budget. With its vintage feel and a daily dose of nostalgia, this piece will make you smile every time you look at your wrist and you will never get tired of wearing it. If you want the feeling of wearing a Rolex Submariner, but don't have the wallet for that budget, this timepiece is an absolute must own for any and all collectors.
