Since getting into watch collecting I always heard the name BOLDR, but never took the time to look into what the brand was all about. I knew they made very cool-looking expedition and field watches, but that was my only knowledge about the brand. I was given the opportunity to check out the most unique case and bracelet implementation I have ever seen and a watch with a nautical design inspiration that can be shown as quite the work of art on land or sea. Today we talk about the BOLDR Supply Co. Odyssey Regatta.
The Odyssey Regatta is the first yachting watch in BOLDER's arsenal. From your first look, you will notice that the watch has quite an aggressive, sharp, and almost abstract look to it with the case and bracelet design, the bracelet is integrated with the case to create a seamless and immaculate aesthetic. On top of its unique abstract and polygonal appearance, the Odyssey has a stunning contrast with its colour choices of black, white, blue, and red on and around the gorgeous textured black and grey sunburst dial.
A watch of this caliber will always come with top-of-the-line material and movement choices. The Odyssey Regatta has a 45.5mm 316L stainless steel case with a built-in helium escape valve, 500m of water resistance, 316L integrated quick-release bracelet with 6 micro-adjustments, triple screw-down crown with embossed logo, double-domed sapphire crystal with triple-coated inner side with AR-coating and a 60 clicks bi-directional rotating ceramic bezel with Swiss Super-Luminova. The Regatta coming in at 45.5mm may seem like an intimidating size, but due to its 52mm flat lugs, this piece wears pretty flat to the wrist, and the 22mm lug size means a thicker bracelet which will add stability and comfort to the wrist, taking the bulk away. The thickness and weight may be a bit too much for some people with the Regatta's 18.2mm case thickness which includes the double-domed sapphire crystal and weighing in at 245 grams with the integrated bracelet, but overall this looks and seems like an extremely wearable timepiece that wouldn't feel too bulky. Looking back at the specs as well, a watch with 500m of water resistance with a helium escape valve is going to be a little more on the hefty side. Looking inside at the mechanics you will be pleased to note it is a Swiss-made movement, but not your typical ETA 2824, but the ETA Valjoux 7750 Elaboré grade. A 25 jewel, Swiss-made movement with a 48-hour power reserve and is one of the most used automatic chronograph movements in watchmaking.
