Vacheron Constantin is at the top of the horological chain with Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet regarding high-end, luxury watchmaking. Last year, VC released their reissue of the iconic 222– a watch designed in the 1970s to compete with the Genta-designed Patek Philippe Nautilus and the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak.

With last year's popularity of the 222, it would be hard to top until today when Vacheron unveiled their new Overseas with their signature movement complication, the retrograde. The design is surprisingly sporty compared to previous Overseas models, but the beautiful blue dial contrasts with the high-polished/brushed stainless steel case—the perfect example of elegance and sport.

The main talking point of the new release is the heart powering the watch. The in-house Calibre 2460 R31L/2 features a retrograde date displayed clockwise across the top half of the dial. Not to mention the incredible moonphase complication accurate to 122 years before needing a correction adjustment.

Having such a complicated movement housed in a stainless steel case is a surprise but welcome. As mentioned, the new Overseas is the perfect marriage between a stainless steel sports watch and pure mechanical engineering art, elegance and complexity. While the price has yet to be determined, it is confirmed that the Overseas will be available at all Vacheron Constantin boutiques.
